Return of the Prodigal Son

Return of the Prodigal Son
Painted by: Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn

In this painting of Mr. Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn, I was amazed because I can relate myself in to the Prodigal Son because we have many similarities. First of all The Return of the Prodigal Son is an oil painting by Rembrandt. It is among the Dutch master's final works, likely completed within two years of his death in 1669. Depicting the moment of the prodigal son's return to his father in the Biblical parable, it is a renowned work described by art historian Kenneth Clark as "a picture which those who have seen the original in Leningrad may be forgiven for claiming as the greatest picture ever painted".

In the painting, the son has returned home in a wretched state from travels in which he has wasted his inheritance and fallen into poverty and despair. He kneels before his father in repentance, wishing for forgiveness and a renewed place in the family, having realized that even his father's servants had a better station in life than he. His father receives him with a tender gesture. His hands seem to suggest mothering and fathering at once; the left appears larger and more masculine, set on the son's shoulder, while the right is softer and more receptive in gesture. Standing at the right is the prodigal son's older brother, who crosses his hands in judgment; in the parable he objects to the father's compassion for the sinful son.

I considered the painting as an art because it has meaning and form. According to the site: http://www.artbible.info/art/large/370.htmlAfter having wasted all the money he has inherited, the youngest son returns to his father. The latter receives him full of grace. The surrounding figures watch respectfully as the father forgives his prodigal son. Now I can say that I was like the Prodigal Son who was trying to become an independent person that will do anything he want without any problem but after he became wasted he came back to his parents and told them that he was wrong, he can't stand alone and asked for the forgiveness of his parents.

In my opinion, many teenagers trying to become rebellious because they want so much freedom that they can do anything they want without asking a permission to their parents. But in the end they failed because the number one reason is money. They don't have enough money to live all by themselves because they don't have their own job and still rely to their parents.
